Let’s examine some of the Greenies ingredients. Remember, these are dental chews
Wheat flour, wheat gluten, glycerin (Sugar alcohol derived from plants, animal or petroleum), gelatin (main use is a gelling agent for products to be frigerated, also a protein), oat fiber, water, lecithin(used for treating High Cholesterol and Alzheimer), natural poultry flavor, minerals (dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, magnesium amino acid chelate, zinc amino acid chelate, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate, manganese amino acid chelate, selenium.
I can’t see anything listed in this product that promotes dental wellness or cleans teeth. In fact, if we were to substitute a couple of related ingredients, such as sugar instead of glycerin and eggs instead of gelatin we will have a cookie. Have you ever bit into a Biscotti without first soaking it in a tasty liquid? They are as hard as any advertised dog dental treats. But nowhere will we read that the Veterinary Dental Association promotes Biscotti as a dog dental chew for pet dental care. But they qualify.
So, what gives? Well, a little advertising trick> anything that creates saliva technically “Helps” cleans teeth and reduces plaque. So will a nice walk or a romp in the yard.
